1943 – 2023
On September 26, 2023, Walter “Wally” Tkachyk of St. Albert passed peacefully with his beloved wife by his side, at the age of 79 years.
Wally will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Linda; children: Tracy (Jim), Darcy (Gord), and Curtis (Megan); grandchildren: Kayla, Mackenzie, Hayden, Eric, Hudson, Marshall, and Molly; sister Mary Knull; as well as numerous relatives and family.
Wally was predeceased by his; sister Anne; brother Jerry; and parents Harry and Frances.
Born in Spedden, Alberta in 1943, he spent his childhood helping on the family farm and fishing in any spare time. After graduating from Ashmont High School he went on to study Engineering at SAIT. After multiple years working for an Engineering company in Edmonton his entrepreneurial spirit took him in a different direction. His love of landscaping was his inspiration for starting Greenhaven Garden Centre & Sodbuster’s Landscaping Ltd., which he operated with his wife Linda for many years. Following this business adventure he returned to Engineering, which eventually led him to work in the Northwest Territories. He loved visiting all parts of the NWT, photographing the incredible landscapes, attending the cultural events, and experiencing the amazing fishing.
There were many activities that Wally enjoyed such as fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, hockey, photography, and woodworking. Everyone that knew him can attest that if you wanted anything fixed, and fixed properly, Wally was the guy to ask!
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Youville Home for their care and compassion; and his physician, Dr. Peter Newnham, for his kind and caring demeanor.
