February 25, 1938 – November 18, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Throndson announce her passing with family at her side on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at age 82 years.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Shawna (Dan) Christensen and Terena (Mark) LeCorre; grandchildren Mark and Brady Christensen and Jackson LeCorre; as well as many relatives and friends. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of forty-nine years, Rod Throndson in 2010.

Betty grew up near Bawlf, AB and was the youngest of six children. She lived fifty-three years in St. Albert, and the cabin at Lake Isle was a special place for friends and family.

Betty was a teacher, a travel agent, and volunteered hundreds of hours teaching ESL and helping run blood donor clinics. Above all, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Family and friends were the core of Betty’s life and she gave her time, talent, energy and cooking skills freely and selflessly. She was always thinking of others first and how she could make the people around her happy. Betty’s lifelong love of travel took her on many adventures including Inuvik, across Canada and USA; and many trips to Europe, notably an ocean liner voyage in 1959, and Norway with her daughters in 2016.

Betty was a talented artist, she loved to play cards (especially Bridge), reading, gardening, and over the years enjoyed camping, curling and golf. Betty loved spending time with her family and we loved spending time with her.

While the family and close friends will gather together at a later date, there will be no formal service. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the University of Calgary Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Cumming School of Medicine Dementia/Cognitive Disorders

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Betty’s obituary at

In living memory of Betty Throndson, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
