October 21, 1939 ~ March 20, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Maurice Schayes announce his sudden passing at the age of 83 years on Monday, March 20, 2023.

Maurice was born October 21, 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta.

He lived and worked on the family farm all his life and served on many farming boards.

He was an instrumental part of starting Westmor Grain Terminals in Morinville and making sure that it was a thriving and successful business. He was also involved in the Legal Alfalfa plant helping develop it
into the success that it is today.

He loved golfing, going to the lake and spending time at the cabin in Valemount, British Columbia. But his love was hunting and fishing. He treasured the time that he would spend out in the shop visiting with friends, family,
grandkids, and his great nieces Jayme and Mawell.

He is survived by his daughters, Doris Bulger (Gary) and Sandra Labonte (Denis); grandchildren, Derek Bulger (Kassandra), Ashley Wade (Dylan), Matthew, Aaron and Kaitlin Labonte; his sisters, Margaret Girard, Doreen Wills, Irene Devolder (Dennis), Lorraine Girard (Joe), Yvonne Sailer (John); many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife, Joan Vollrath; parents, Edward and Martha Schayes; brothers-in-law, Remi

Girard and John Wills; niece, Rita Huot; and nephew Brett Barabas.

At the request of Maurice, there will be no formal service.

Donations can be made in Maurice’s name to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Sturgeon Memorial Funeral Chapel (780) 921-3900
