Early morning on August 12, 2023 John Brendan Sandmoen passed away peacefully at the University of Alberta hospital with his wife and four children by his side. John was 76 years old.

John was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario to Dorothy and Clarence Sandmoen on October 9th, 1946. John attended Lakehead University and then continued to Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario graduating as a Civil Engineer. John had a lengthy career as a Professional Engineer working in Ontario and British Columbia before settling into St. Albert, Alberta in 1984.

Beyond working in his Engineering field, John had many passions in life, sports being one of them. John was an avid player of racquetball, baseball, pickleball, a cyclist and a runner completing a marathon in 1988. Later, his sporting interests turned to officiating football and umpiring baseball. Enthusiastic for spending time in the outdoors he loved hiking, taking his family on camping trips in the motorhome and spending time at his cabin. Throughout his life John spent a lot of time volunteering with organizations and individuals always striving to make the world a better place for all.

Most important of all to John was his family. He is survived by his loving wife Lynda, his four children Ken (Jen), Gregory, Jeffrey (Kelly), Jacquelyn (Kevin), his grandchildren Cole, Brenden, Sydney and Clark as well as his brother Sandy (Doris).

A public memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on August 25th, 2023 at the St. Albert Inn Guardian room.
