It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bernie Roy, who passed away October 11, 2023, in his home at the age of 65.
Bernie, born to Jean Paul and Madeleine Roy (predeceased) on April 16, 1958, in St. Albert, is survived by his family Norman Roy (Katia), Henry Roy, Donald Roy (Maureen) and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Upon graduating high school, Bernie continued onto NAIT where he then worked as a plumber-gasfitter in Edmonton, and later moved to Vancouver. While in Vancouver, Bernie found his real passion in life, painting homes and utilizing his artistry skills painting canvas art and abstract furniture pieces. In 2010, while vacationing on Vancouver island with family, Bernie survived an internal brain injury. Shortly after, Bernie moved back to Edmonton to fully recover with friends and family by his side where he went on to live another 13 years.
Throughout his later years in life, Bernie was unfortunate to experience several health-related issues that continually plagued him both physically and mentally. With sadness and sorrow, we think of Bernie in our hearts and can still find peace knowing he no longer has to battle pain and health issues. Family and friends that were close to Bernie know he is in a better place and that he will be missed dearly by all that knew him.
Bernie had a passion for music and anything that would make a person laugh. Bernie’s natural charisma allowed him to make friends in almost every situation and bring smiles many faces. Bernie’s laugh was not only infectious, but accompanied by his kind generosity of others, brought warmth to many hearts. His art brought a simplistic calm to those who were privileged to see it, and a sense of pride for him to show his artistry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM, Saturday November 18, 2023, in the lower hall of the St. Albert Community Hall. The family requests in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to the Mental Health Association of Canada, Edmonton Chapter, edmonton.cmha.ca.
