1945-2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Eleanor Parslow of St. Albert, AB, on March 21, 2023, at the age of 77 after a nearly three year long battle with cancer.

Darlene was born in June of 1945 to Bernard “Ben” and Esther Penno in Westlock, AB. After growing up in Barrhead, AB, Darlene moved to Edmonton, AB. While living in Edmonton, she met and married her husband, Richard “Dick” Parslow. Darlene and Dick went on to have two children, Leanne and Joanne. Shortly after their girls were born, they moved to Grande Prairie, AB, and enjoyed many wonderful years there before relocating to St. Albert.

Darlene was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She gave her very best to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. She was pure goodness and the kindest soul you could ever meet. She always had a passion for sewing and loved quilting. She has made numerous beautiful quilts for family, friends, and charitable organizations over the years; she truly had a gift. Darlene was an excellent cook and was always ready with something delicious when friends and family would come by, especially if they were coming to help her cheer on her beloved Edmonton Oilers! Saying she was a big fan would be putting it mildly. Throughout the years, Darlene enjoyed playing golf and spending winters in Palm Springs, California, with Dick and a wonderful group of friends. Her ultimate joy in recent years has been her grandchildren. Her face lit up when she talked about them and would do absolutely anything for them, earning her the well-deserved title of “Super Grandma”.

Darlene was predeceased by her mother, Esther; father, Ben; stepmother, Martha; and brother, Harvey. She is survived by her husband, Dick; daughters, Leanne (Mike) Leeds and Joanne (Derek) Jabs; grandchildren, Eric, Kate, Claire, and Amy; sister, Audrey (Melvin) Taron; sisters-in-law, Lynda Penno, Margaret McKay-Green (nee Parslow), and Liz (Jim) Wilson (nee Parslow); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

At Darlene’s request a service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to Grey Nuns Hospital Palliative Care Unit 43, 1100 Youville Dr W Northwest, Edmonton, AB T6L 5X8, as a thank you for the amazing care she received in her final days.
