Edward "Ed" McKinley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at the age of 84, in Edmonton, AB. Born on August 18, 1940, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Ed's journey led him to touch the lives of many with his passion and courage.
Ed's life was marked by his dedication to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen, and their three sons: David, Mark (Nicole), and Ian (Janet). Ed took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Carter (Sierra), Cale, Ainsley, Logan, Ethan, Breck, Sophie, Aila, Megan, and Ryan.
An active member of the community, Ed served as president of the St. Albert Hercules Soccer Association and was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a familiar face at hockey rinks and was always ready to share a story or provide his own opinion.
His love for sports was not just a personal interest but a legacy he passed on to his grandchildren. He was their biggest supporter, never missing a chance to cheer them on, whether they were on the ice rink, baseball diamond, soccer field, rugby pitch, lacrosse box, or at gymnastics meets.
His passion extended beyond the playing fields, touching the lives of all who knew him. Ed's kind-hearted nature and genuine interest in others earned him the love and respect of many. His gentle spirit and warmth made every encounter with him a memorable one.
As we say goodbye to Edward McKinley, we remember a life well-lived, a legacy of love, and the countless memories that will continue to inspire and guide us. Ed's story does not end with his passing but lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 19th between the hours of 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion located at 6 Tache Street in St. Albert.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion.
