LUKANIUK, Margaret “Beryl”

Posted

September 11, 1934 - May 12, 2024

Beryl, a loving wife and mother, passed peacefully on May 12, 2024, in St. Albert, AB. She was survived by Larry, her husband and soul mate of 64 years, and their children Lori, Craig, Coral, and their families. Her love and care extended to her grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly.

Anyone who knew Beryl will remember her infectious zest for life. She was born in Brandon, MB, to Sid and Martha Bentley on September 11, 1934, and lived a life filled with joy and laughter. Growing up in Brandon, she graduated from Brandon Collegiate and worked as a telephone operator with the Manitoba Telephone System. She met Larry in 1957, sharing love letters when he was overseas with the Canadian Military. Two years later, they were married on October 17, 1959.

They settled permanently in St. Albert, AB, after a few moves with the military. Beryl, a stay-at-home mum, was actively involved with her kids, supporting their activities, and cheering them on in whatever endeavour they chose. In the early eighties, she started working part-time at Woodward’s then Safeway.

Whether you were fortunate to know Beryl for a short or a long time, you knew she loved plants, baking and listening to the radio. She was a proud Canadian and an avid sports fan, always cheering on the Oilers, Eskimos (now Elks), and Blue Jays. She made lifelong friends at Newcomers' Alumni. Through the years, her hobbies included square dancing, bowling, camping, knitting, scrapbooking, and gardening.

In her later years, she loved volunteering and travelling with Larry. Beryl was beautiful inside and out!

In her memory, we ask that donations be made to the Alberta SPCA, where she actively volunteered. She loved dogs and had them throughout her life.
