1931 – 2023

Roy William Lakeman, born 1931 in Edmonton Alberta, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his daughter’s home in Richmond British Columbia on Wednesday, March the 1st, 2023.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Lakeman, son Grant Lakeman (Elizabeth), daughters Pam Manser, Tracy Lakeman (Ken), Jill Blackie (John) and grandsons’ Simon Manser, Nathan Blackie, and Tye Blackie. He is predeceased by his eldest daughter Janet Lakeman.

Roy was a devoted husband, loving father, enthusiastic grandfather, and great grandfather. He was dedicated to his catholic faith, a fundamental compass in his life, which gave him great comfort during his passing.  Singing in the choir as part of the Holy Family Parish in St. Albert was a joy and choir members fondly referred to him as ‘golden throat’.  Roy’s working career spanned oil field instrumentation, hydraulics design, repair, sales, and management. As an athlete he excelled in baseball and golf and enjoyed nature walks with Joyce and cross-country skiing in his earlier days. All who knew him remember him as a kind, honest, happy, and loving man. He will be missed by many and never forgotten.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held in the summer of 2023 in St. Albert, Alberta. Donations, in his name, can be made to the Alberta Cancer Association.
