Gertrude Grieve, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and life enthusiast, passed away on October 28th, 2023.

Gertrude is predeceased by her husband, James Grieve; youngest daughter, Gerta Grieve; and grandchildren, Jason Grieve, Natalie Grieve, and Hana Grieve-Buchanan.  She is survived by her children: Elizabeth, Suzanne (John Flaa), David (Anne), Michael (Audrey), and Bruce (Felly); 14 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

The daughter of immigrants, Gertrude was born in Athabasca, Alberta, and grew up on the family farm with a multitude of siblings.  She began her career as a teacher in a one room school in Northern Alberta and finished it in the late 1980s after 19 years at Paul Kane High School in St. Albert, Alberta. Her love of nature, involvement in the local community, and exploring the globe continued to motivate her late into life.

Mom was the first one to say she had a good life.  She is now free to explore the world, wander the trails of her beloved mountains, and taste huckleberry pie again.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home, 10011 114 St. NW, Edmonton.
