1944 - 2023
On November 28, 2023, Michael “Mike” Robert Dendy passed away suddenly at the age of 79 years.
Mike will be deeply and lovingly missed by his wife of 55 years, Daphne; son, Christian and his wife Yukiko; grandchildren: Maya, and Noah; and his church family at Capilano Christian Assembly in Edmonton.
Mike was predeceased by his parents: Oliver and Merril Dendy of Saanichton, BC; his older brother John, also of Saanichton and Ottawa, ON; and younger brother, William Dendy of Toronto, ON.
Mike, who was a quiet and gentle man with a great sense of humor, taught art for 38 years at Bonnie Doon High School, WP Wagner High School, and J Percy Page High School in Edmonton.
When Mike retired in 2006, he was delighted to have time to indulge his passion for painting and spent countless hours creating beautiful landscapes, still lifes, and abstractions that are in collections provincially and nationally.
Mike loved the natural world and was very content casting a fly rod, hiking the mountains, or frustrating himself on the golf course! He was very much a family man who enjoyed nothing more than exchanging ideas with his son Christian, enjoying the company of his wife Daphne, and spending hours painting with his grandchildren.
Most importantly, Mike was a man of deep Christian faith. His greatest hope was that his art would reflect the grace, beauty, and peace of his Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. In the midst of our sorrow, we have the joy of knowing that Mike has gone home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday January 13th, 2024, at Capilano Christian Assembly Church, 9333 – 50th St. NW, Edmonton, AB.
