COURNOYER, Thérèse Marie (née Croteau)





Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, teacher, art lover, and world traveller. She encouraged curiosity, learning, adventure and culture in our family. At the age of 96, and after a very full life, she went home to the Lord.


She was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Daniel Eugène Cournoyer. She leaves to mourn her children: Rachelle Cournoyer (Peter), Raymond Cournoyer (Karen), Denis Cournoyer (Maggie), Pierre Cournoyer (Kathie), Irene Guidos, Louise Neufeld (Cameron), Daniel Cournoyer (Julie); grandchildren: Nicole, Georges, Tess, Gabrielle, Geneviève, Jocelyne, Megan, David, Madeleine, Matthew, Emilie, Daniel, Jacqueline, Natalie, Paul, Katherine and great grandchildren; Benjamin, Sebastien and Margo.


Thérèse was raised in a large French Canadian family on a farm near Bonnyville, Alberta. She became a teacher after attending Normal School in Edmonton, teaching in a one-room school house before the age of 20. As the new young teacher in Morinville, she met Daniel, married in 1948 and settled in St. Albert where they raised seven children together. During those years, she obtained her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. She finished her teaching career at St. Joseph Composite High School in Edmonton, teaching art. Her faith and family were the centre of her life.


A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday March 18, 2023 at St. Albert Catholic Church. Interment in St. Albert Catholic Cemetery.


She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Rest in Peace Mom, Mémère.
