It is with heavy hearts we announce Carol has passed peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 82.
Cherishing Carol’s memory are her loving husband, Denis; her children, Darren (Joyce) and Brian (Trish); grandchildren, Jaxon, Kai and Kaia; sister, Lynne (Stan), brother-in-law, Gary (Truth). She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Kay Van Deelen.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Carol attended the schools of King Edward Park, Ritchie and Scona Composite High School.
She was the consummate business person and accountant. In her career she enjoyed many challenges and opportunities including working with tradespeople, architects, entrepreneurs and Alberta Lotteries.
In 1997, she transferred from the Edmonton area to Vancouver. This fulfilled a lifelong dream of being near the ocean which allowed her to spend time exploring the shores and enjoying the energy of the city. Subsequently she moved to the quieter streets of Victoria before settling on Pender Island where she resided for the next 26 years. During this time, she loved tending her garden, watching whales off the deck and cruising the Southern Gulf Islands in her and Denis’ boat, Sun Vista.
An in-person and virtual memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on July 25 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
