1934 ~ 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family of Edward Hamilton Bertram announce his passing on December 21st, 2024, at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his family who were able to express their love and gratitude to him before he passed.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Loretta, his children, Jeffrey (Jocelyn) Bertram, Dianne (Dave) Somers and Craig (Tamara) Bertram. Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren, Amanda (Tom) Murphy, Jordan (Jenny-Lind) Lister, Ashley (Taylor) Bertram, Nicole (Jesse) Bertram, Rebecca Bertram, Alicia Bertram and great-grandchildren, Lucas Murphy and Emmersyn Murphy as well as a large extended family. He leaves to mourn his sister, Ena Bertram, of P.E.I.
Ed was predeceased by his beloved mother, Fanny, and his younger brother, Ray.
Ed was born in 1934 in his home in Fredericton, P.E.I. Seeking better employment
opportunities, he left P.E.I. at 18 years of age and travelled west, ultimately ending up in the Edmonton area. He found work with Calgary Power (TransAlta Utilities) and remained a loyal employee for 39 years. He moved to St. Albert in 1961 and raised his family there. He enjoyed a long and happy retirement doing things he loved like playing his cherished 1953 Gibson guitar, golfing, taking a memorable trip to Europe and spending time with family and friends, including those at Ironwood Point.
The joy of Ed’s life was being surrounded by his family, whom he was immensely proud of. He loved music and often entertained his friends and extended family with sing-alongs – a fond memory for his many nieces and nephews and their children. He was a kind, humble and gentle man and a wonderful friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his many home healthcare aides, the caring staff at Youville home (where he lived for only 3 weeks before passing) and the kind and
compassionate care from the doctors and staff at the Sturgeon Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2024 at 10:00 am in St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, AB.
In lieu of flowers, just be kind to one another. Dad would have loved that.
