1950 ~ 2025

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Linda left all those who loved and cared for her for a long walk on her own.

Those who remain to uphold her memory and honour her life are Pierre, her loving husband of 48 years; their two children, Denis (Julie) and René; grandchildren, Kylie and Ryan; her siblings, Beverly (Charles), Barbara (Arthur), Richard (Katherine) and Raymond (Jill). She was predeceased by her mother Margaret and father Brian.

Linda’s positive attitude, grace, courage, and always present hope carried her through numerous cancer treatments over two and a half years. This attitude helped her family and friends cope as she played a very active role in her cancer care and eventually comfort care.

Linda was born on 14 July 1950 in Kenora, ON. She spent her high school years in Sioux Lookout ON, before joining the Canadian Armed Forces (Army) as an Administrative Clerk in 1969. She enjoyed a brilliant 36-year career attaining the rank of Master Warrant Officer (MWO) an uncommon feat for a woman in those days. She was posted to numerous CF Bases in Canada and a 6-month Tour in CFS Alert, NWT. She particularly enjoyed two opportunities to instruct/teach young francophone recruits at CFB St-Jean, QC, and regular CF members at the CF School of Instructional Techniques at CFB Borden, ON. She retired with a legacy of Leadership, dedication and professionalism.

Linda was a talented crafter and many of her projects such as quilts, knitted throws and needlework have found a forever home with family and friends. In addition, she was a voracious reader, particularly of nature, Canadiana and autobiographies of Canadian explorers and pioneers, especially women.

Linda enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hiking, walking and birding. She was a well recognized figure on the neighbourhood walking trails where she was known as the Bird Lady. Her friendliness led her to meet countless walkers and their dogs where she made lasting friendships.

Linda wanted those she left behind to know that she lived a full life with very few regrets and was ready to leave on her long walk.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Staff and volunteers at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. Your genuine care and compassion throughout Linda's journey were exemplary.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Donations on Linda's behalf can be made to the St. Albert Hospice Association (SASHA) at https://sasha-cares.com/
