In Loving Memory of Gwen Batchelor

1929-2024

With profound sadness, the family of Mrs. Gwen Enid Batchelor announces the passing of their mother, grandmother, and great grandmother on May 8, 2024 with her sons James and Don, and daughter-in-law Sue by her side. Gwen passed in comfort and peace at the age of 94 in St. Albert, Alberta.

Gwen was born on August 22, 1929 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, the 3rd daughter of William and Evelyn Moore. Gwen fondly remembered her farm life and her proud father buying a self-propelled combine for $2900 in 1943. Less fondly, Gwen remembered having to feed the pigs daily.

She completed grade 12 at Fort Saskatchewan High School before going on to graduate from the McTavish Business College in Edmonton. Gwen was resourceful in her working career as a secretary, receptionist, clerk, cashier, and finishing as a Public Affairs Assistant for the Department of National Defense for Western Canada. Her career spanned 7 cities across Canada while supporting her husband Allan in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Gwen loved the outdoors, was a bowling champion, an avid golfer, and an accomplished petit pointer. Gwen and husband Allan loved to travel - enjoying many trips to Europe, Hawaii, Arizona and California. Gwen lost her loving husband Allan in 1999 after 49 years of marriage.

Gwen will be lovingly remembered by her son James (Lorraine), son Don (Sue), her six grandchildren: Jon (Dionne), Jer (Jo), Brian (Becky), Douglas (Farrah), Mat (Rachel) and Lisa (Kevin). Memories of Gwen will continue in time through her ten great-grandchildren: Zach, Sami, Riley, Sophie, Brock, William, Lexi, Micah, Paige and Parker Gwen. Gwen's grandchildren and great grandchildren always had a special place in her heart. She loved their visits, phone calls and texts, and enjoyed spoiling them. Gwen will also be remembered by her one remaining sibling, Mavis Boisjoli of Fort Saskatchewan.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn her passing, yet we all cherish and celebrate the wonderful, loving and kind person that she was.

A Celebration of Life for Gwen will be held on May 21st, 2024 at 2PM at Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery, 16204 Fort Rd NW, Edmonton, AB (780) 472-9019.

We welcome all friends and family to join us in this celebration about this amazing woman who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Canadian Cancer Society.
