Ruth Anstruther (née Walter) peacefully left the world just a month shy of her 81st birthday, surrounded by loved ones, on the morning of April 23rd, 2023.

Her children and grandchildren will remember the many stories and happy memories she shared from her youth, growing up in Paradise Valley with her six siblings: Sharon (Donnie) Churchill, Ernest (Lucille) Walter, Patricia (David) Willis, Tom (Sue) Walter, Debby (Don) Badger, and Noël (Dale) Beauchamp.

She leaves behind a legacy of excellence in her career as a nurse, beginning with the completion of her studies at the University of Alberta and continuing through her many years working as the lead occupational health nurse at Syncrude Canada Ltd. while living in Fort McMurray, AB.

Ruth was a proud mother to her three children Sleight (Gina) Anstruther, Greg Anstruther (Andrea Bolin), and Sheri (Rod) Derworiz. She will also be remembered as a devoted and deeply loved grandmother to seven grandchildren: Madison (Shay) Bashaw, Chloe (Brendan) Pickering, Robbie (Hannah) Anstruther, Paige Derworiz, Cole Anstruther, Leith Anstruther, and Liam Anstruther, as well as her four great-grandchildren: William Bashaw, Heath Bashaw, Bo Bashaw, and Sophie Pickering.

She leaves us to rejoin her husband, Robert Anstruther, parents Ernest and Marguerite Walter, her older brother Ernie Walter, and her brothers-in-law Donnie Churchill, David Willis, and Al McKinnon, all of whom she missed so dearly after their passings. In her last days, Ruth was especially looking forward to being reunited with her loving husband, Bob, whom she said would be getting everything "spic and span" for her arrival.

The many loved ones Ruth leaves behind will remember her for her sharp mind, tenacious spirit, and, above all, her fierce love for her family and friends.

Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Albert Catholic Parish, 7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert. In lieu of flowers, her family welcomes donations made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in her memory.
