The writ has dropped for the Alberta provincial election and voters will head to the polls on May 29.

Candidates for the St. Albert and Morivnille-St. Albert are going up today and candidates are pounding the pavement, hoping to earn votes in the city.

In the St. Albert riding, incumbent NDP MLA Marie Renaud is facing off again newcomer Angela Wood of the UCP. In the Morinville-St. Albert riding incumbent UCP MLA Dale Nally is facing off against four-term Sturgeon County councillor Karen Shaw.

Recent polling done by Leger and Abacus Data show a relative tie between both the UCP and NDP for voting day.

The Gazette will have more to come.
