Two St. Albert suspects charged in drug bust

Edmonton-area investigations netted more than $1 million in drugs, cash, firearms, explosives, and vehicles

Edmonton Police Service found drugs, jewelry, and cash during several drug-trafficking raids throughout the month of May.

Two St. Albert residents were nabbed by police and face multiple charges after a trafficking investigation led to the seizure of more than $36,000 worth of drugs.

The investigation, led by the Edmonton Police Service's drug and gang enforcement unit, also received assistance from the RCMP's Emergency Response Unit, which included an officer from the St. Albert detachment.

James Twin, 36, and Amanda Voravongsa, 34, were charged in connection with housing numerous street drugs that included crack cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and GHB. In addition, $6,075 in cash and a taser were seized.

Twin is charged with seven counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of a crime over $5,000, possession of a prohibited device, and possession of prohibited ammunition. 

Voravongsa is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, possession of a prohibited device, and possession of a controlled substance. 

Twin and Voravongsa are scheduled to appear in Edmonton Provincial Court on July 6. 

This raid was one of three drug traffic investigations EPS conducted during the month of May. In total nearly $1 million worth of street drugs, $88,000 in cash, three firearms, four explosives, and $130,000 worth of vehicles were seized at multiple residences in the Edmonton area. The investigations resulted in 82 charges against eight suspects.
