St. Albert firefighters have had a busy week after putting out two house fires in four days.
St. Albert Fire Services responded to two house fires between Nov. 11 and 14, deputy chief of operations for emergency services Leigh Sawicki said in an email.
The first was on Nov. 11 at a home in Akinsdale at around 11:10 p.m. Crews had the fire under control after about an hour. The house sustained $450,000 in damages and is no longer inhabitable.
The second happened about 14 minutes after midnight on Nov. 14 at a home in Erin Ridge North. This fire took about 20 minutes to put out. The house sustained $25,000 in damages but is still considered livable.
There were no injuries reported in either fire, Sawicki said. Both fires have been deemed non-suspicious.
The two blazes occurred just weeks after four units caught fire in Grandin Village on Oct. 25, displacing four families.
Sawicki said it was “uncommon” for St. Albert Fire to have two fires in a week, but that crews were trained and equipped to respond when they did. He encouraged residents to reduce the risk of fires at home this holiday season by keeping live trees watered and not overloading outlets with decorations.
Anyone who spots a building on fire in St. Albert should get to safety and call 911.
