St. Albert RCMP have seen a rise in thefts from vehicles and parking garages this past week, according to an Oct. 14 release.
The Mounties urged members of the public not to leave valuables inside their vehicle and follow a "9 p.m. routine" where vehicle owners check each night to make sure their property is safe and secure.
Some things to check for during the routine as advised by RCMP include: locking vehicle doors and using a steering wheel lock, and/or vehicle tracking system; parking in a garage or in a well-lit area if no garage is available; closing overhead garage doors and locking the door between the garage and the house; making sure both car and house windows are shut and locked; and turning on an outdoor light.
The routine also includes making sure no items are left in vehicles including keys, wallets, purses, shopping bags, change, electronics, sunglasses, and garage door openers.
These directions related to the 9 p.m. routine are available at the front counter at the St. Albert RCMP detachment, the release said.
