A snowfall warning remains in effect for St. Albert and surrounding areas.
This morning's cloudy conditions are expected to drop 10 cm of snow, that will be "heavy at times," according to Environment Canada's forecast.
Winds from the east of 20 km//h gusting to 40 km/h will ease around noon with the temperature steady at -17 C. The windchill near -28 creates a risk of frostbite.
Periods of snow are to continue well past bedtime with a 30 per cent chance of flurries taking over overnight and persisting into Thursday morning.
"Heavy snowfall is expected today, with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm," the snowfall warning warns. "Snow will continue to intensify this morning across portions of central and southern Alberta and will move towards the east today.
"Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow."
Snow will taper off this evening.
The temperature is expected to return to more forgiving territory Friday, with a forecast high of -8 C.
