St. Albert resident honoured with Rotary Integrity Award

St. Albert resident Corinna Dooley was awarded the Rotary Integrity Award for her contributions to the community.

One St. Albert resident has received the Rotary Integrity Award, which recognizes non-Rotarian members of the community for their selfless contributions to their community.

On May 14, 12 regional Rotary clubs, including the Rotary Club of St. Albert, gathered for the 31st gala for the Rotary Integrity Awards. The award recognizes members of the community who are considerate, representative, brave, selfless and generous.

This year's recipient from St. Albert was Corinna Dooley, a dedicated healthcare advocate, community leader and the chair of the gala committee for the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation. Dooley has been a board member of the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation for nine years, and as chair of the gala committee, she has aided in raising $2.4 million for the hospital.

"It was certainly a surprise to know I'd been nominated, and definitely a great honour," said Dooley. "I often joke, I'm the only board member who was born at the Sturgeon and then I went on to have our four children there. And for me serving the community in that way has been a real gift."

Dooly said being recognized with the award was a surprise and very humbling as she had never done any of her work with the foundation with the goal of being recognized or rewarded.

"It truly was just about raising funds for the hospital," said Dooley. "And the energy and the momentum of doing that has just increased and fuelled my passion and my enthusiasm for the cause over the years."

She explained that she is passionate about raising funds for the hospital that serves people in the community, including loved ones and those you don't know.

Dooley explained that she coined the phrase, "When you need a hospital, you want a great one close to home," which is what she aims to help create for the community.

Dooley said she is honoured to be recognized alongside other community leaders who exemplify service, diversity, leadership, fellowship and integrity.
