A St. Albert man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Gibbons man earlier this year.
Andrew Pliska, 26, was arrested in St. Albert and is now facing the murder charge along with a charge of attempted robbery and two counts of unlawful confinement. He is being held in custody and will make his first court appearance Thursday in Morinville.
Morinville RCMP was first called to a home in Gibbons on March 2 around 2 p.m. When they arrived at the home they found the body of Cameron James Pethridge, 23. The medical examiner later determined Pethridge’s death was a homicide, but did not release the specific cause of death.
Two other men were also charged in connection to Pethridge’s death, but are not facing murder charges. Samuel Wasylynchuk, 22, from Gibbons was arrested in Grande Prairie and has been charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery.
Police also arrested Kyle Elliot, 23, from Morinville, and charged him with two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery.
RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Tim Taniguchi said all of the men were arrested without incident in the middle of last week. Taniguchi was unable to provide any more details about how Elliot and Wasylynchuk were involved.
“It is because it is with the courts at this time and the circumstances are with the courts,” said Taniguchi.
Elliot and Wasylynchuk will both appear in court on Jan. 19 in Morinville.
