Spring melt floods Sturgeon County roads

As winter turns to spring and snow turns to water, several roads in Sturgeon County are closed due to flooding, including a major highway. Secondary highway 825 between highways 37 and 643 is closed and drivers are being advised to use Hwy.

As winter turns to spring and snow turns to water, several roads in Sturgeon County are closed due to flooding, including a major highway.

Secondary highway 825 between highways 37 and 643 is closed and drivers are being advised to use Hwy. 28A or Hwy. 643 until the flooding is resolved.

On top of that, many local roads in the county have also been closed. Township Road 555A between Range Road 225 and 230 is closed. Township Road 551 is closed between Range Road 245 and 250 and water is blocking Township Road 552 from Range Road 225 to secondary highway 825.

Estate Way in the Sturgeon Industrial Park is impassable from Park Lane to Range Road 225 and Range Road 251 (142 Street/Veness Road) from 195 Avenue to Poundmaker Road.

Sturgeon County also advised about several roads covered with water that. while not closed to traffic, residents would be best to avoid if possible.

Those roads include: Range Road 261 south of highway 633; Township Road 540 west of the Y-intersection at Range Road 262 and Range Road 540A; Range Road 231 south of Township Road 560; Range Road 233 between Township Road 560 and 544; Range Road 261 0.8 kilometres south of Township Road 544; Township Road 564 between Range Roads 240 and 241; Range Road 271 between Highway 37 and Township Road 552; Range Road 225 north of Township Road 552 and Range Road 244 1.2 km mile north of Township Road 580.

The county has crews trying to correct the drainage issues and plans to open the roads as soon as possible.

Residents who spot other drainage issues are asked to call Sturgeon County's transportation department at 780-939-8252.
