Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for St. Albert for a storm forecast to hit the area later Friday afternoon.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” reads the watch issuance. “Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.”
As of 11:00 a.m. the Weather Network was forecasting up to 10 millimetres of rain falling before midnight tonight, with temperatures expected to warm up to 21 degrees C before the storm cools things down to 17 degrees C.
This is the second severe thunderstorm watch issued for the Edmonton and St. Albert area this week following the storm that hit on Tuesday evening.
