RCMP net two in drug sting

A two-month investigation has led to the arrest of two people and the seizure of roughly $1,000 worth of crack cocaine and $535 in cash.

A two-month investigation has led to the arrest of two people and the seizure of roughly $1,000 worth of crack cocaine and $535 in cash.

The investigation, which was based in part on information from the public, culminated in a traffic stop officers conducted on April 8.

Inside the 2002 Acura EL, officers found the cash along with 24 pieces of crack cocaine.

Const. Janice Schoepp with the St. Albert RCMP said, along with the pieces of cocaine, there was a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle.

She said the cocaine was of a large enough quantity to justify the trafficking charge.

“Dealers market them, people will call them and ask for a half gram, but generally they are around 0.3 grams,” she said. “The street value for something like that is probably just under a thousand dollars.”

One man, 18-year-old Travis Huynh was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

Kalista Hilary Tran was charged with a single count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Tran was released on cash bail while Huynh is being held in custody. Both made a brief appearance in court Monday and had their cases set over until May 2.

The Acura EL and cash were also seized.
