Shifting weather patterns and cooler temperatures have replaced the heat wave that pushed near 30 C.

St. Albert is back to its cooler rainy skies after a stretch of extreme heat warnings earlier this week.

Daytime temperatures have dropped to 21 C with overnight lows near 11 C. This weekend, continue to expect showers and gusts up to 40 km/h.

Environment Canada’s heat warning, which was issued earlier this week for Calgary, Edmonton, St. Albert, and surrounding areas, has officially been removed. Shifting weather patterns and cooler temperatures have replaced the heat wave that pushed near 30 C.

The forecast calls for periods of rain and a mix of sun and cloud is expected to follow the rest of this week. Chances of thunderstorms are especially high in the afternoon and evenings. Warmer weather is expected to return next week with highs climbing back up to the 30s on Tuesday.

Although local cooling centres had been essential last week, they are now expected to see less demand as temperatures begin to level out. The City of St. Albert will continue to keep facilities like Servus Credit Union and St. Albert Place open for the public's use. During extreme hot weather, St. Albert transit drivers will also allow individuals to board and cool down at no cost if you are unable to pay. Express buses will stop at “non-express” routes if someone wishes to board as well.

Warmer weather is expected to return next week with highs climbing back up to the 30s on Tuesday. Residents are encouraged to keep updated on their local forecast when planning outdoor activities.

In serious situations, the RCMP or Municipal Enforcement Services may be called outside of business hours to assist unhoused residents in need of shelter.
