Alberta Health Service is warning the public about a possible measles exposure that occurred earlier this month. One confirmed case of the measles has AHS concerned and they are warning people who were in specific locations to be on the lookout for symptoms.

The locations and times where people may have been exposed are:

The Manulife Place office tower at 10180-101 Street on Nov. 1, 2 and 3 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Synergy Fall Social event, which was held in the main ballroom of the Sutton Place Hotel on Nov. 3 from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The University of Alberta Hospital Emergency Department from Nov. 8 around 7:30 p.m. to the following morning at 4:30 a.m.

In a statement, Dr. Marcia Johnson, Medical Officer of Health for the Edmonton Zone said they were asking people who were in these locations to monitor themselves closely for symptoms.

“If symptoms develop, these individuals are asked to call Health Link Alberta immediately and to avoid all contact with others.”

She also asked these people to watch for symptoms until the end of the month, because of the long period it can take for symptoms to develop.

According to AHS the symptoms to watch for include fever, cough, runny nose or red eyes, and a red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after fever starts. The rash typically begins behind the ears and on the face, spreading down to the body, and finally to the arms and legs.

Measles is an airborne virus that typically doesn’t require close contact for someone to be infected.
