Counterfeit cash
Counterfeit money has found its way into the city.
The RCMP are warning that the funny money has been given to various businesses in St. Albert. Since Nov. 9, the RCMP have had six reports of counterfeit bills. Five of the bills were $100 and one was $20.
The holographic stripe, watermark portrait and iridescent maple leaves are features to help spot counterfeit money.
If a business suspects a counterfeit bill, the police suggest stopping the transaction and requesting another note. If that’s not possible, try to keep the counterfeit bill but do not risk your own safety. Contact the RCMP and keep notes about how the bill was received, how many notes, the denomination, context and description of those who handed out the bills.
