The St. Albert Superstore has pulled Mini-Go yogurt from the shelves after a parent discovered a needle in a container of yogurt he was feeding his daughter.
Kelly Bourgeois was stunned last week when his daughter pulled the needle from her mouth after taking her first spoonful.
“I was vibrating. I was shocked. It doesn’t hit you right away and then you start thinking about what could have happened.”
Bourgeois said he contacted the police about the incident and feels lucky that nothing worse happened. The yogurt had been purchased the week prior at the St. Albert Superstore.
Const. Janice Schoepp said the RCMP talked to Bourgeois and the grocery store and while the investigation continues it does not seem to be a case of tampering.
In a statement, Superstore said they took the case seriously and had temporarily removed the yogurt from their store.
“We executed a thorough investigation, including a visual and physical inspection of Yoplait Mini-Go yogurt at the store where the product was suspected of being purchased and found no evidence of any compromise in packaging, or foreign objects. As a precautionary measure we have removed all Yoplait Mini-Go yogurt from our shelves from this store.”
The statement also said they were working with the police to try and figure out what took place.
“We are cooperating fully with the local authorities on their investigation. As circumstances precluded us from conducting an examination of the product, we are unable to provide any other perspective at this time.”
Representatives from Yoplait were unavailable for comment late on Tuesday afternoon.
