On June 6 St. Albert city council passed third reading on a series of amendments to the city's traffic bylaw, including new rules around the use of helmets on city trails and in the Woodlands Skate Park.
While the new rules also include E-scooters, those on skateboards, rollerblades, inline skates, bicycles, and non-motorized scooters, regardless of age, will need to wear a helmet when travelling or using city facilities such as the Woodlands Skateboard Park, or face a $100 fine.
Previously, while everybody was required to wear a helmet while out for bike ride, only those under the age of 12 were mandated by bylaw to wear helmets while using the various modes of travel mentioned above.
Another amendment to the traffic bylaw passed on June 6 was the explicit prohibition of tandem riding on E-scooters, or two people riding an E-scooter at the same time.
