A Morinville woman, accused of murder in the death of a 21-month-old foster child has been released on bail.
Christine Laverdiere, 34, was released on June 11 following a hearing in front of the Court of Queen’s Bench in Edmonton.
Laverdiere was charged with second-degree murder on May 29, in the March death of a foster child.
The toddler’s death was ruled a homicide, following an autopsy several days after she was rushed to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
Laverdiere made a first court appearance on June 1 and her second date took place Thursday, but in between those two appearances her case was heard in the higher-level court.
Justice Richard Marceau granted release for Laverdiere on a $5,000 no-cash bail. That means she is not be required to post that amount, but would have to put it up if she breaches her bail conditions.
Those conditions include a requirement that she remain in Alberta and report once a week to the Morinville RCMP.
Laverdiere also is banned from being in the company of children under the age of 16, including her own daughter. She has been ordered to stay away from schools, parks, playgrounds, pools or any other place where children might gather.
She is allowed to live in one of three residences located in Morinville, Devon or Caslan. When she moves between those homes she has to give police 24 hours notice.
Laverdiere also has to allow the director of children’s services or a department designate to inspect her home at any time.
Publication bans generally do not allow reporting on any details that emerge at a bail hearing.
Laverdiere was not present at the courthouse on Thursday, but a lawyer, in agreement with the Crown prosecutor, put the case over until July 29.
