The death of a young man in Morinville Wednesday night following a fight has been ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.

The RCMP have identified the dead man as 20-year-old Morgan Drew Arcand-Faithful of the Alexander First Nation. A man is in custody but no charges had been laid as of the Gazette’s press deadline.

No cause of death was released.

The RCMP responded to a report of a fight shortly after 11 p.m. in the area of 103 Street and the 9900 block. According to a news release, “a male was found on scene with a visible wound.”

Arcand-Faithful was pronounced dead at the scene despite treatment by ambulance personnel.

Staff Sgt. Mac Richards of the Morinville detachment said the RCMP had taken several people into custody after the incident.

“The fact we have people in custody doesn’t mean they were the ones involved,” he said Thursday.

Anyone who may have seen Arcand-Faithful on Wednesday evening is asked to contact the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4550.
