The death of a man whose body was found outside of St. Albert has been ruled a homicide. Edmonton resident Ahmed Farah, 25, was released from the Edmonton Remand Centre at 12:50 a.m. on Saturday Nov. 25 and was found dead less than two hours later outside of St. Albert. Farah’s body was found on the side of Range Road 251, around 250 metres north of Poundmaker Road in Sturgeon County. The distance between the Edmonton Remand Centre and the location where his body was found is two kilometres. Corporal Hal Turnbull of the K Division RCMP said that Farah was picked up by someone when he left the Edmonton Remand Centre. In the last two years Farah had been charged with many fail to appears, breaches and bail forfeiture hearings. He was sentenced in May 2016 for possession of substance, obstructing a peace officer and breach of recognizance. He was given a $1,250 fine and a $375 victim fine surcharge. It is unknown what he was serving time for at the Edmonton Remand Centre and how long he had been in custody. His body was found by the St. Albert RCMP during a routine patrol of the area. Turnbull said that although the area is slightly outside of St. Albert, the St. Albert RCMP members routinely patrol the area looking for teens partying or drinking and to keep an eye on the nearby businesses. “Every town has a spot like that so that is why a member would have been cruising out there,” Turnbull said. “It is part and parcel to the routine patrols in the area.” An autopsy conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton on Tuesday Nov. 28, determined that the manner of death was homicide. The cause of death is not being released. Investigators are asking the public for help and want to speak with anyone who may have seen any vehicles in the vicinity of Range Road 251, Township Road 542 and 127 Street, also known as Range Road 250 up to Sturgeon Road. The RCMP also want to speak with anybody who may have seen Farah that night. He is described as a black man who is five foot ten and 201 pounds. He had black hair, brown eyes and wore a beard. He was last known to be wearing a black hoodie and red pants. The ongoing police investigation is being conducted by the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) from Edmonton with assistance from the Morinville and St. Albert RCMP detachments. This is the third body found in rural Sturgeon County in less than two months. On the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 17, Edmonton resident Kevin Dean Damien Yellowbird, 27, was found dead in a ditch in Sturgeon County. Yellowbird has ties to the community of Ma-Me-O Beach. RCMP have not released the cause of Yellowbird’s death nor where he died. Krishneel Kamal Kumar, 26, from Edmonton was found dead in a field near Riverstone Drive and Township Road 544A in Sturgeon County on Monday Oct. 30. An autopsy conducted on Tuesday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton confirmed the death was a homicide.
