The St. Albert Angels (white) lost a heartbreaker in the gold medal game of the U13B provincials this past weekend.

The Angels, who were the host team, had been undefeated the whole tournament heading into the gold medal game, where they faced the Airdrie Angels.

The gold medal game was a back-and-forth affair that saw the teams have to play extra innings. Unfortunately, St. Albert was unable to pull off one final victory, losing 7-6 in the 8th inning. St. Albert coach, Blair Troock, shared how he thought his team played.

"The girls played together so well, nailing all the simple plays and cheering each other on," Troock said.

"Airdrie was a tough team, and it was a game we'll never forget."

Playing Airdrie wasn't the only difficult part of the weekend for the Angels. The weather was a huge factor this past weekend. The Angels not only played in 30 C weather, but also had many games delayed to the air quality issues in St. Albert. Thankfully, the weather didn't stop the Angels effort or support from the fans, said Troock.

"The crowd was awesome, and I am incredibly proud of each and every player."
