It’s show time

Movies will soon return to St. Albert. Landmark Cinemas is slated to open in mid-February, ahead of its fall deadline. The theatre will feature eight screens in the 35,000 square-foot building at 800 St. Albert Trail.

Each auditorium in the theatre will be outfitted with reclining chairs.

This is the first Landmark Cinemas in Canada that has been built from the ground-up with the new La-Z-Boy recliners. Other locations with the chairs have been renovated to add the special feature.

The theatre will also have online payment for both tickets and food, which means you can order from your home and pick up your meal without having to stand in a long line.

Landmark Cinemas is the second largest motion picture theatre company in Canada, with 44 theatres throughout Western Canada, Ontario and the Yukon Territory.

Melcor Developments Ltd. began construction on the theatre in early 2017. The theatre was approved for a building permit valued at around $7.7 million in February 2017.

New tap house is a-brewin’

Endeavour Brewing Company has been knocking down the walls at #4A 215 Carnegie Drive to get the space ready for its tap house. The brewery is expected to open later this summer.

According to its website, the business will have a small 15 hectolitre brewhouse, a three-fermenter cellar, a canning line and a tasting room. There’ll be no walls hiding the cellar, which means customers can see the entire beer-making process from their seats.

Matthew Atkins, owner of Endeavour Brewing, said brewing beer has always been a passion of his.

“We decided to jump in and do what we love,” he said. “What’s most exciting is having people try my beer and get feedback and hopefully enjoy it.”

Atkins has been brewing at home for more than 20 years, testing and tasting different combinations to find the perfect beer. He said he’s excited to open later this summer.

Shop ’til you drop

A new clothing store has sales clerks who act like personal shoppers, allowing customers at Diverse Boutique to find clothing that fits any shape or size.

“I love helping women dress to their body type. A lot of women have a hard time figuring out what looks best on them,” said Hala Beauregard, owner of Diverse Boutique.

Prior to opening the boutique, Beauregard lived in Barrhead where she owned a clothing store. When her husband got a new job, the family moved to St. Albert.

Her original plan was to remain as a stay-at-home mother, but her passion for running a clothing store prompted her to jump back in.

“I’ve always had a passion for fashion,” she said. “I’ve owned my own business for so long that I couldn’t just stay at home.”

The store also features jewelry and clothing that is locally made. Beauregard said she wanted to use her store as a way to support entrepreneurs in the area.

The store is located at #101, 31 Fairview Boulevard and is open from Monday to Friday 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
