Holiday season means parking crunch

During the holiday season, an upswing in demand has led to a parking crunch at the Edmonton International Airport.

During the holiday season, an upswing in demand has led to a parking crunch at the Edmonton International Airport.

The chart below gives a quick overview of costs for a number of parking facilities at the new and constantly improving international airport. The present daily and weekly charges are outlined and show a variance between the parking facilities. As the airport grows there are now a number of old and new options for travellers.

First of all, you have the choice of placing your vehicle indoors or outdoors. The indoor facilities provide warmth for both you and your vehicle. In addition, in safe and secure facilities you have the option of self parking or valet parking. With the valet parking, you drive right up to the departure doors and walk from your vehicle directly into the airport. Upon your return, your warm vehicle will be waiting for you at the same point you left it at the departure door.

If this was not enough, I have also taken advantage of services like having my oil and filter changed, tires rotated and vehicle washed. What a service while the vehicle sits idle during my absence! In my busy schedule I appreciated this type of elite offering.

The other day I was asked about discount coupons for parking at the airport. Generally all of the locations, with the exception of Airways and Valet, provide coupons either online, from your travel agent or at the front desk in the case of Elite. These coupons can save you big dollars for an extended absence.

All of the operators provide a complimentary shuttle service for you and your luggage. There is even an innovative improvement where you can check your luggage at Jet Set for any WestJet domestic flight. Although you are not presently able to check your luggage into Air Canada, you are able to receive a boarding pass for any airline at the self-serve kiosks at Jet Set. It is recommended that you be there at least one hour ahead of flight time to check your luggage. With the valet parking, you hop out of your vehicle into the airport proper.

On the cold days when the temperature plunges, energized plugs are provided at the outdoor facilities. All are complimentary with the exception of Park’n Fly, which charges $1 per day, and Airways, which has a flat rate of $5.

Are there any other incentives for parking? Park’n Fly, which is part of a larger conglomerate, offers 100 Aeroplan miles per stay.

With the various options we now have at the Edmonton International Airport, it takes any hassle and worry out of your next trip. I have included the contact numbers for each of the parking facilities just in case you wish further info.
