Despite the Woodlands Water Play Park opening for the summer on Tuesday, the city of St. Albert says those looking to swim outside at the Grosvenor Outdoor Pool will need to wait another week, as rain and cold weather has delayed the pool's opening.

The city had planned to open the Grosvenor Pool this Saturday, but the city announced on social media on May 21 the new opening date is tentatively scheduled for June 1.

“Due to colder and rainier than usual weather this spring, Grosvenor Outdoor Pool’s reopening will be delayed to the first week of June, weather dependent,” the city posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “A stretch of warmer, drier weather is needed to prepare the facility for the summer season. While the city anticipates the pool being open June 1, all preparation work for the facility is weather dependent.”

“We understand this is disappointing and appreciate the public’s patience as we complete this necessary preparation work.”

Government of Alberta weather data shows St. Albert has had over 40 millimetres of in May, compared to roughly 20 millimetres in May of 2023 and just under 30 millimetres in May of 2022.

The wet weather is forecast to stick around heading into the weekend, as the Weather Network's seven-day forecast shows between 1-3 millimetres of rain could fall Wednesday and Thursday, while up to five millimetres of rain is expected to fall on Saturday and Sunday.

Despite the rain, temperatures are expected to warm up slightly over the next few days, as the daytime high of 12 C on Wednesday will be replaced by daytime highs of between 15 C and 19 C as the week goes on.
