A pair who made the worst of a woman’s best intentions last week are still on the run and police are appealing to the public for help.
Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is still looking for a pair of carjackers — a young man and woman — who stole a woman’s car after the she offered them help following an accident.
Police were on their way to a multi-vehicle collision on Dec. 23 at about 9 p.m. at St. Albert Trail and 137 Avenue when the woman came up on the accident. She offered assistance to the pair who had been in one of the vehicles.
When the two came in out of the cold into the woman’s vehicle, the man told her he had a knife and ordered her to drive into St. Albert.
The woman complied with the man’s demands and drove the pair up St. Albert Trail. She stopped the vehicle just north of the intersection at Campbell Road and 156 Street and fled from the pair into a nearby store.
The suspects then took off in her vehicle.
Jeff Wuite, an EPS spokesperson, said the woman did everything right and was simply taken advantage of.
“We certainly would not want to encourage people not to be Good Samaritans.”
He said after the threat against her was made, she also did the right thing.
“She waited until she thought she could escape from the car without being harmed and then she ran.”
The woman described the male suspect as Caucasian, approximately 25 years old, with an average build, standing about five-feet-10 inches tall.
He had a crew-cut hairstyle and was wearing a white hoodie or sweater and blue jeans.
The woman he was with was approximately 20 years old and of aboriginal descent with a very slight build. She was roughly five-feet-two inches tall and wearing a black shirt and pants.
They were last seen heading north, further into St. Albert in the woman’s car. That vehicle is a black 2002 Ford Focus four-door with Alberta licence plate URM 583.
As of yesterday police had not located either of the suspects or the stolen car.
Wuite said if people encounter the vehicle or the two suspects they should not try and get involved.
“The best course of action is to avail yourself of a phone and call the police.”
