This Halloween, many residents have come down with dino-fever.
Both Halloween Alley and Karries Kostumes and Dance Supplies have said the T-Rex inflatable costume takes the top place for most popular Halloween ensemble.
Kim Lelacheur, district manager at Halloween Alley, said the T-Rex has been gaining popularity over the last few years thanks to YouTube.
“It was people and all their shenanigans and it was people out doing things in T-Rex costumes outside of Halloween. People buy the T-Rex costume for Halloween, but then wear them all year,” she said.
“They wear them to sporting events, they do flash mobs in them. It’s bigger than Halloween.”
Karrie Verhulst, owner of Karries Kostumes and Dance Supplies, said costumes typically follow what’s popular in theatres, video games and social media.
“Our industry is really dictated by movies. Whatever the most popular movie is in the recent months will definitely dictate what the customer is looking for,” she explained.
Likewise, costumes such as The Nun, Pennywise, Wonder Woman, Black Panther and Deadpool have been in popular demand based on movies released this year and last.
Lelacheur said young girls are also switching it up. Ditching the princess costume, many are searching for creepy and gory costumes. One look at Instagram’s #halloweencostume shows thousands of posts of scary makeup photos and tutorials, from zombies to ghosts and vampires.
“They want to be scary, it’s really evolved. They’ve gone from pretty and princess to horror,” she explained.
For those who already have their costumes, a few places in St. Albert are ready for them.
Game OVR, a virtual reality arcade located at #129 1 Hebert Rd, has two new thrilling Halloween games that are sure to make hair stand on end.
The Manor is a game for adult audiences. The immersive game has creepy creatures jumping out at the player while they weave through the haunted halls of a house.
For a more child-friendly experience, young people can play The Haunted Graveyard. There’s only one jump scene, but the creepy game is still sure to get the blood pumping.
Players will race against time to get through the graveyard before they’re trapped in the tomb-ridden lair forever.
St. Albert Centre is also getting ready for Halloween. On Oct. 31, the mall will have a trick-or-treat boo-nanza from 4 to 6 p.m. Families can take their young ones between businesses to get a handful of free candy.
For those looking to get into the Halloween spirit on the morning of Oct. 31, they can check out Rattle and Strum at Arden Theatre at 10 a.m. Tickets are $15 per adult and $10 for seniors and children.
