St. Albertans gathered at the end of May to raise $20,000 to help create a new health care learning facility in the city.
The event, which benefited the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation (SCHF), was held in the city's new Nouveau neighbourhood.
Rebecca McCauley, a SCHF representative, said the $20,000 raised will go toward an innovative training space for physicians, nurses and therapists.
"The support will go towards a state-of-the-art Simulation Centre designed to provide an immersive learning experience for health care practitioners at the Sturgeon Hospital,” McCauley said. “The SIM Centre will further establish the Sturgeon Hospital as a leader in health care."
In April, the SCHF launched a year-long campaign to raise funds for the centre, which will feature an imitation patient’s room with simulated patient.
"Having a community hospital to meet the needs of the families that will eventually call our communities home is incredibly valuable," said Courtney Jensen, managing partner at Strata Developments, supporter of the project.
"The event went really well,” Jensen said of the inaugural fundraiser. "We ended up having over 150 people through, and we rounded our donation up from $100 per person to a $20,000 total. It was a good fundraising day."
"Having the support of our community is absolutely key to the ongoing fundraising success of the SCHF,” added McCauley. “Strata Development’s commitment to our efforts will have an impact for years to come."
