For those looking to get some holiday shopping done early, or those not quite in the holiday spirit already, there are plenty of things to do in St. Albert this weekend.
1. Country Craft Fair
The St. Albert Place Visual Arts Council (SAPVAC) is hosting its annual Country Craft Fair this weekend.
The Craft Fair, which will feature over 100 vendors, is taking place on Saturday and Sunday in the lobby of St. Albert Place downtown.
Among the many popular vendors who will be selling their wares this year is the St. Albert Potters' and Quilters' Guilds, as well as the Floral Art Society of St. Albert.
The Fair will be open on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..
2. Indie Handmade Show
Those interested in doing a double-feature of artisan markets can also check-out the Indie Handmade Show at the Enjoy Centre all weekend.
General admission for the market is $7 but free for children, and vendors of all sorts from across the country will have their unique items for sale.
“Since 2015, the show has been an annual holiday tradition where visitors can meet passionate creatives in person, hear their stories, and feel their works first-hand,” the Enjoy Centre says of the event online.
The market is open today until 9:00 p.m., and then 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
3. Ministik Mihkinâhk - turtle island
The Art Gallery of St. Albert's newest exhibition is something not to miss.
Located in the Vault Gallery, Ministik Mihkinâhk - turtle island is a fibre art exhibition with contributions from 250 practitioners, the Gazette's arts and entertainment reporter, Anna Borowiecki, wrote recently.
“They ranged from school groups to multi-generational families who signed up to fashion miniature turtles from felt, beads, wool, ribbon, and thread. The result is an awe-inspiring intricate, colourful, tactile, and imaginative concept.”
The Art Gallery is open Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There's no admission fee at the Gallery, but donations are welcome.
4. Merchants look to keep perfect season going
The St. Albert Merchants junior hockey club is in the midst of a historic season, as the team is currently undefeated over halfway through the campaign.
The Merchants will head to Rivière Qui Barre to take on the Morinville Jets tonight, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
On Sunday the Merchants will play host to the Beaumont Chiefs at Jarome Iginla, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
The Blue Guys have outscored their opponents 130-37 through 17 games, with team captain Dylan McFatridge blazing the way offensively with 38 points on the year.
Goaltender Jack Robinson currently holds a substantial league-wide lead in goals against average (1.14), save percentage (0.948), and is tied with three other goalies in shutouts with two.
