On Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland confirmed the annual federal budget will be released on Tuesday, March 28.
Freeland said the budget will focus on clean energy, affordability and job growth in Canada.
The budget expected to contain the recently-finalized $196 billion health-care funding deals with each of the provinces along with measures for Canadian companies to compete in the global market.
On Friday Freeland told the House of Commons that the budget will make life more affordable and provide "good jobs and prosperity for all Canadians from coast to coast to coast."
After the budget date was announced, Conservative Leader Pierre Polievre called for Freeland to cap spending, cut taxes, and reverse the federal government's deficits that are driving up interest rates.
The economy has changed drastically since the last federal budget which was presented in April 2022, and the government has been battling inflation for the past year. In April 2022 the Bank of Canada's interest rate sat at 0.50 and it is now up to 4.50.
