St. Albert city council has approved a second six-month extension to the previous contract between Alberta Health Services and the city that dictates funding for ambulance services.
The Gazette reported in March city council heard from administration that more time was needed to negotiate a new contract, and council subsequently granted a six-month extension to the existing contract, which was set to expire on Mar. 31 of this year.
On Sept. 29, during a special city council meeting scheduled solely for a vote on whether or not another six-month extension would be granted, the city's Chief Administrative Officer Bill Fletcher told council there were still some unspecified details that needed to be agreed to between the two parties.
“Negotiations have been ongoing for a number of months to renew the contract, (and) suffice to say there is still some daylight in terms of the details that need to be worked out,” Fletcher said.
Council approved the extension unanimously.
