St. Albert city council voted on Monday to spend up to $10,000 to cover event and conference-related expenses for Coun. Wes Brodhead as he serves in his role as a member of the executive committee of the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA).
The request is for a two-year term, and money will be drawn from the city’s stabilization reserve. Brodhead noted the precise costs can vary widely, depending on where events are scheduled.
In both 2017 and 2019, the council of the day approved the same amount of funding for Brodhead’s participation.
When asked by Coun. Shelley Biermanski why there is no funding within the CUTA itself, Brodhead said the organization is composed of volunteers.
Brodhead spoke to what he described as the “effectiveness” of CUTA, noting that they met with Alberta’s Transportation Minister Rajan Sawhney before Alberta announced it would match federal grant funding in support of public transit.
CUTA currently has a conference scheduled to run from October 23-26 in Montreal.
