GoodLife Fitness will celebrate its grand opening on May 12, giving members and the public an opportunity to check out the new facility on 525 St. Albert Trail.
The club will officially open for workouts on May 13.
“GoodLife is a proud Canadian company that is very excited to be opening our new co-ed location in the growing city of St. Albert,” wrote Kimberly Bratton, divisional manager for Alberta, in an email to the Gazette.
The new club will feature cardio equipment with personal viewing screens, strength-training machines, group exercise and cycling studios, and a large free-weight area. There will also be a dry cedar sauna and a child-minding service.
Bratton said the club will open a presentation centre on April 16 in its front lobby. Once GoodLife opens, residents can also join for a free fitness orientation.
Capturing a dog’s best looks recently earned a local photographer five awards from the Professional Photographers of Canada.
Jill Shantz of J Shantz Photography had two of her pet photographs accepted into the competition. She also won three merit awards, which are a little more prestigious, she said.
In total, photographers submit photos for three categories: accepted, merit and excellence.
“Your goal is to be accepted into the salon, into the show,” she said.
Shantz said the photographs awarded with merit will now go on to compete for best in their class. Results for that competition will come out in late April.
She added that she submitted dog photos instead of images of humans because she specializes in that field.
D’Arcy’s Meat Market is in the running for a 2014 Edmonton Top Choice Award.
The local butcher shop was recently nominated as one of three top meat shops in the city. A spokesperson with Top Choice said the store received at least 10 nominations to enter into the running for the award.
According to the organization’s website, nominees need to be in business for a minimum of one year, conduct fair business practice and should have an acceptable clean and neat shop. They also need a good online presence, with a minimum of 75 per cent positive reviews.
People can now cast one vote per nominee, per city for their preferred business. Voters will also enter a draw to win a $3,000 vacation. Voting ends April 15.
