Three young people were brought to hospital after an apparent shooting in St. Albert early Monday morning.

Police were initially called to Hunchak Way in the city's southwest at 12:51 a.m., according to Alberta RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.

He said it was reported to police that three youths in a vehicle heard gunshots shortly after a second vehicle described as a white van pulled up alongside them.

All three were brought to hospital, one with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, the others with relatively minor injuries, all non-life-threatening.

Mounties called in the assistance of an Edmonton Police Service aerial vehicle in an attempt to find the van, to no avail.

Savinkoff said he couldn’t confirm a description of the shooter posted to Facebook by an individual who appeared to be the mother of the youth driving the vehicle. He said the victims police spoke to indicated they did not see the shooter.

In that post, the author wrote that the female teen sped away from the suspect vehicle and found a home with adults outside who called 911. The post asked for anyone who heard anything in the area of Grandin Road and Levasseur Road to contact RCMP.

The RCMP’s General Investigative Section (GIS) has taken on the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700 or, to remain anonymous, CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.P3Tips.com.
