Darel Baker of the St. Albert Rotary Club with Rich Horning, Michelle Hordal and Rita Becker from Adaptabilities with Rotary Club president Darija Slokar announced Adaptabilities was the recipient of $100,000 for the club’s 35th Anniversary Signature Project Friday morning (June 13).

The Rotary Club of St. Albert is marking its 35th anniversary with a major investment in local support services, committing $100,000 to help AdaptAbilities expand into St. Albert and Sturgeon County.

AdaptAbilities is a charitable organization that provides life skills development, inclusive recreation, and respite services to individuals with visible and invisible disabilities. The Rotary Club selected the organization as the recipient of its Signature Project funding for 2025, citing the alignment of AdaptAbilities’ mission with Rotary’s values of service, inclusion, and community-building.

“AdaptAbilities stood out during our selection process for the depth and lasting impact of their work, not only on individuals but on entire families,” said Rotary Club President Darija Slokar. “Their commitment to foster belonging for all aligns strongly with our values. We are honoured to help bring these services to St. Albert and Sturgeon County, creating a meaningful legacy in our 35th year.”

Michelle Hordal, Founder and CEO of AdaptAbilities, expressed gratitude for the funding and support.

“We are deeply grateful to the Rotary Club of St. Albert for championing our mission and making it possible to bring much-needed respite and inclusive support services to St. Albert and Sturgeon County,” said Hordal. “Together, we are not only expanding essential services but also building a community where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive and belong. This partnership is a powerful example of what we can achieve when we work together to create lasting, positive change.”

The funds will go toward launching programming and building capacity to support individuals and families in the area.

The project was made possible through the Rotary Club’s fundraising efforts, including the Flag Program, RibFest, and community garage sales. The club credited its members and the broader community for their continued support and commitment to service.
