Planning for the Lieutenant Governor Distinguished Artist Awards Gala continues to progress in stages ahead of the 2011 event.

Peter Moloney, chair of the gala committee, updated the gala’s planning progress at a recent city council meeting. According to Moloney, community work is proceeding well and the committee is slowly getting its plan together, but there are still some important factors to cover.

“One area of decision that we are going to have to make over the next few months is where we’re actually going to have the gala,” said Moloney.

While the location of choice for the festivities is the Enjoy Centre, currently under construction in South Riel, the Lieutenant Governor of Albert Arts Awards Foundation has expressed a concern about providing a professional stage for the performances and presentations.

“We are anticipating that we will be able to do it all on site at the Enjoy Centre and we’ll look at it from that point of view,” Moloney said.

Another important aspect for the planning is sound, which was deemed the latest concern. However, Moloney told council the committee is working with the city’s cultural department in getting some technical assistance in order to determine whether sound will be an issue or not.

In terms of having a solved budget, Moloney said it should be fairly solid by August and that there was the city’s 2011 budget site to keep in mind.
